Proposition 30: Governor Jerry Brown's Tax Increases for Education and Public Safety

I think that Proposition 30 is the most important of all the propositions beacuse it increases the money that goes through school and public safety fundings. Additional tax from each individuals will go go K-12 schools and community colleges. It is important that schools get the proper funding that they need in order to keep students in school and keep subjects and courses they need.
The advantage of this proposition is that more money will go to public schools and community colleges that really need the funding to provide for their curriculums. The disadvantage is that the income tax rates for individuals who make more than $250,000 and couples who make more than $500,000 will increase. This will also hurt small businesses and does not guarantee new money for education funding.
I am now 18 years old, and I would vote yes for Proposition 30 because I feel that education is important to our lives. Education is the bridge to success and it provides knowledge not only for the children but all for adults. Proposition 30 is important to students and teachers all over America.

The Canterbury Tales: Royal Cook

If I was to live in the Middle Ages, my occupation would have been a a royal cook. I would live in a small bungalow in a small town in England called Clovelly. Though I live in Clovelly, I travel to London almost everyday to do my job as a royal cook for the King and Queen. As the royal cook, one of the many challenges I face on a daily basis to anticipating whether the King and Queen will be more than satisfied with my delicious delicasies that I have put so much effort into creating just for their taste buds. I do not have any family beside my mother, who is faintly ill and needs to be taken care of by my neighbor whilst I am away at work. I do not have any other family due to the fact that my time has been consumed by the King and Queen and tehir royal appetites. The world around me is nothing like I have ever imagined. There are so many things that I have not yet seen, though I am part of this royal environment. My place is to be in the kitchen and the kitchen is where I am told to stay. My surrounding is not what I had hoped and expected. It is far more broad than I had thought. I am not so sure whether I like my surrounding, or I am just used to it. As one of the royal servants, it is necessary to have military training. Unfortunately for me, I do not have any military training as I am only a poor cook who happens ro have been chosen to serve for the King and Queen. Despite working for royalties, I value the teachings of my mother and where I came from. I was told that no matter how successful you become, you must look back to where you came from. Not only will this help you reach success further, but it will also stand as a reminder to keep your feet planted on the ground. In the future, I hope to serve not only the royalties of England but also royalties all over the world. I hope to keep their appetites more than satisfied. As a royal cook, my job is to keep those who consume my delicasies happy and proud.

Wife of Bath

The Wife of Bath is a middle-class woman. During her time period, women were expected to be stay-at-home wives and clean the house, sew clothes, and care for their husbands and children. The Wife of Bath is a voluptuos woman with a bold face, large hips, and a widely set gap teeth. She has the ability to make clothing and is skilled at wandering. She knew the remedies for love's mischances; she has had five husbands and is currently on the hunt for husband number six. The Wife of bath is a worthy woman all her life.

"American Dream"

Everyone hopes of becoming big. Whether it is to be a famous actor, athlete, musician, and a well-respected politician, we all dream of becoming what most of our parents never ended up becoming. The point is, we all want to achieve the “American Dream.”
We have our own unique definition of the “American Dream.” To be a well-known choreographer and an outstanding fashion designer is my dream. My “American Dream” is to have a stable, well-paid job, a house I can call my own, a wonderful family, and a good health care for them. But judging by our economy’s “situation,” it is almost impossible to keep a stable job or to get the best health care plan for your family. It would take years of hard work to be able to achieve my dream – as simple as it is.
According to the Pew Research center, “the older generation were ‘the beneficiaries for good timing’ in everything from a strong economy to a long rise in housing prices.” This means that my simple dreams would have been easier to grasp during my parents’ generation, because back then, jobs were easier to find and housings were not as expensive. There were jobs waiting for you right when you graduate from high school. Nowadays, high school graduates have to compete with current college students for job spots. Not only that, but most jobs are given to older workers who – some – may not be able to perform the work properly. There is competition from left to right.
Our generation now may be advance in technology, but when it comes down to doing the work, we seem to lack proper knowledge. Part of my “American Dream” is to have a better education, not only for me, but for my children. Getting the proper education will be difficult when there is new technology in every corner to distract the students. We spend more time staring at our phone and computer screens than in our textbooks. Fact of the matter is, we cannot achieve the “American Dream” if we let these new technologies distract us. Yes, at times they are helpful, but do you honestly think that your iPhones or iPads will save our deconstructing economy?
The “American Dream” is not about materialism. It is about achieving your dream of getting the education your parents might not have had. No matter how simple or extravagant your dreams are, you have to decide whether it benefits you as a student, as a citizen, and as a person. Our economy is and will always be a part of that dream. Make a difference and think of what you can do to keep this generation, -- our generation – from being “Generation Screwed.” We, the students, are the future of this country. We are our parents’ “American Dreams.”

College Acceptances

Wouldn't it be amazing to get into the college of your dreams without having to do all those rigorous work that consist of all day studying and pulling all-nighters to finish an essay or project? Doing easy work and still be able to get into a UC or CSU? Most high school students who dreamed of going to a good college would be delighted to keep everything easy and relaxing, but do you honestly think any college will accept you if you're not willing to work harder than usual or much harder? Colleges are getting much stricter with their students. If you're not working as hard as they want you to work, you're not worthy of being in that school.

Colleges nowadays are looking for hard working students who will represent their schools and not someone who will bring down its name. If a high school student, prefferably a high school senior, wants to get into colleges such as UC Irvine, UC Davis, or Stanford that student needs to work twice as hard or maybe even more. You are not going to be accepted into any colleges if you demand easy work. Your senior year will prepare you for the many challenges and obstacles you may face when you get into a prestigious university. This year will also be the year you set your goals for the future and decide what you want to do for the rest of your life.

If you are an aspiring lawyer, do you think Harvard University will accept you into their school when they find out that you didn't even make grades your senior year? Do you think Stanford will allow you to attend their school if they find out that you can't handle even the easiest work assigned to you? You need and have to work hard to achieve your goals. There is no easy way out in the real world. You have to bust your behind everyday just so you can do what it is that you want to do with your life. You have to think about the positive outcomes of all your hardwork. In the end, it'll all be worth it and it'll pay off once you're in the college of your dreams and you are doing what you love doing.

In some cases, high school seniors get scholarships, but that doesn't mean colleges can't take it away from you. You can't just rely on those scholarships. You still have to work, work, work. It's all about working. You may think you're just wasting your time and you're not even planning on going to a UC or CSU. Even so, you need to try and work harder. Just because you're not going to a prestigious colleges doesn't mean you can slack off. Working hard doesn't just apply to getting into a good school, it applies to everything you do in your life.

Overall, I say that I agree with colleges being strict on students who allow their grades to fall. The opportunity to attend the most prestigious school in the country is not just an honor, but a priviledge. Students who take things too easy will not make it in the real world and will have a hard time managing their time. Every student, not just high school seniors should remember that hard work pays off. Your luck may not come as soon as you expected, but they will if you keep persevering.

Senior Year Highlights

This year I am looking forward to my highschool lasts: my last homecoming, last Hip Hop and Dance performances, last high school projects. I'm most looking forward to senior project, Senior Ball and graduation. All the hard work that I'm goign to be putting into my senior year should and will pay off in the end. Senior project is one thing that I'm looking forward to because of the new experiences with doing something I've never done before. Senior year is definitely going to be stressful but fun.
